The Landscape of E-Learning Industry

E-Learning or Online Education is getting more mainstream in the recent years due to an increasing internet adoption and the rise in awareness about e-learning opportunities. Also, the Covid-19 pandemic has played a major role by keeping people at their homes and pushing them towards the online world of learning.

Understanding the Market Size

According to a report by Global Market Insights, the Global E-Learning Market size surpassed USD 200 billion back in 2019 and is anticipated to reach approximately USD 375 Billion by 2026.

The online education industry in India and around the world has witnessed an increased acceptance over the past few years. Traditional schools and universities have also started to use online modes of education. The online model is easily scalable, cheap, and is time flexible.

According to research by ResearchAndMarkets, the Indian Online Education Market is forecasted to be worth S$ 8.6 Billion by 2026, with the current worth being US$ 1.96 billion. The country has become the second-largest market for E-learning after the US, catering to around 9.5 million users. The Indian government is also leading a digital revolution in the country with around 50% Indian population already having access to the internet (Statista).

All of these numbers are pointing to a single conclusion: ‘The future of E-Learning is very bright across the globe’.

And numbers never lie.

Analyzing the competition

Like every lucrative business opportunity, the e-learning industry is full of companies trying to become the market leader.

Among the companies active on LinkedIn, there are 125,000 companies around the world with the keyword “e-learning” or “online training” & 14,000 companies in India alone.

Online learning players are continuously competing to offer unique products, bringing in different approaches and value-added services. Gamification is one of the most prevalent trends to encourage learning through immersive experiences.

BYJU’s, Udemy, Coursera, UpGrad, Whitehat Jr., and Duolingo are a few prominent players in the industry, catering to the requirements of different target audiences.

There are multiple other unique products coming up in the market as we talk, but most of the companies have more or less the same offerings.

So, how can you stand apart from the crowd and operate a cash positive business which is impacting millions?

Digital Marketing is here to help

E-Learning industry has a lot of players with great products competing to get potential customers on their platforms.

But the question is how to reach out to those customers?

Well, that is pretty simple. You can go to all the city markets and talk to people using loudspeakers.

I am joking!

Now, the important thing here is how efficiently you can reach out to the right people at the right moment with the right message.

This is something Digital Marketing can help you with.

But wait, what is Digital Marketing?

Let’s figure it out!

Introduction to Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing is simply the use of online tools and platforms for marketing purposes.

Sounds a bit confusing?

Like loudspeakers help you reach out to a large number of people, Digital Marketing helps you to amplify your message just to a more targeted audience of your interest and not everyone as in the case of a loudspeaker.

Digital Marketing provides you with tools and techniques to present your product/service to the right audience in the right manner at the time they need it the most.

Digital Marketing channels can include social media, blogs, webinars, emails, paid online ads, and many more.

If you want to learn more about the concepts of Digital Marketing, refer to my blog here.

But Yogesh, how can I run my ads?

To be honest, gone are the days, when just running ads was enough to get loads of customers.

In today’s era, people have developed something called ‘Ad Blindness’. Marketing is just a way to amplify and communicate your message to the right audience. And the most effective communication is always person to person, which is deep and personal.

Let’s understand it properly.

Be the market leader with Deep Marketing

While all your competitors are focusing on blindly burning money on ads, let’s take a step further and build trust with your potential customers.

Building trust is the most important aspect of any sale. If you try to bombard people with just unwanted ads and act as a pest, they will get irritated with you.

Instead, give them something meaningful, gain their trust, and they would be ready to pay you whatever you ask for.  This is called Deep Marketing because it focuses on building a deep connection with your prospects.

If you are in the industry to make small quick profits, this technique is not for you. This is for people who really want to make an impact and are patient enough to play the big game.

You can easily win from your competition by using Deep Marketing. This is because not many people have the patience required to do big things in life and they are after the illusion of quick success.

Most of your competitors will not focus on building trust with potential customers. This is how you can take a lead in an industry full of short term players.

Awesome.

But how can I implement this strategy in my business?

Building you Funnel to Success

Let’s create a marketing funnel for your business that will be a catalyst in leading you to success. It is a step by step approach that will help you understand and apply the digital marketing techniques properly. The funnel consists of 4 steps:

1. Prepare the Weapons

The first and the most important part of this marketing funnel is Content. Just like before going to a war you should be ready with your weapons, before going out in the market you should prepare some quality content.

The content can be in any form including blogs, videos, podcasts, infographics, e-books, etc. It should just be relevant for your audience and add value to their lives. Think about what your target audience really needs and you can create small content pieces around that. This can even be a small version of your product/service.

For example: If your product is a course on Cryptocurrency Trading, you can write an e-book on ‘The 5 mistakes most Beginners make in Crypto Trading’ or record a short course on ‘Getting Started with Crypto Trading’.

Now, this weapon of yours is going to do wonders for you!

We are going to use this piece of content as a Lead Magnet to get your potential customers into your marketing funnel.

Once you have this lead magnet ready, create a quick landing page describing about the piece of content. Give an option for anyone to download the lead magnet by filling in their Name and E-Mail Address.

You can also ask for Phone Numbers if the content is very valuable. The entire point is that people will not share their phone numbers easily and this will prevent them from ever filling in the details. In the end, something is better than nothing.

The agenda here is to collect leads (contact details) of your potential customers in exchange for the lead magnet (piece of content) you have created. Just remember that the content should be valuable for the audience, or they will not give in the details.

2. Get to the Target

Once you have the weapons (lead magnet and landing page) ready, it’s time to go to the war. But even if you have the best weapons in the world, they would be worthless if you can’t find your enemy (target).

You need to get to your target audience and let them know about the content you are offering.

Only after they know about it, they can make a choice about opting in for your content or not.

Got it.

So, how do I do it?

Yogesh: Paid Ads

But didn’t you said that Ads are dead?

Yogesh: Wait, I never said that!

If you directly use ads to bring sales to your product/service, you will face a lot of competition and not very good results. Also, people have learned to ignore such sales ads.

But, when you are using ads in this funnel, they are irreplaceable and very crucial for your success.

You can run paid ads on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Google, Youtube, and many others. These platforms offer a detailed targeting mechanism wherein you can show your ads to only the people that match your requirements.

You can target people basis their location, age, interests, industry, pages they follow, websites they visit, and a lot of other metrics. You can even retarget people who have visited your website in a specific period or performed a particular action on your website like add to cart.

You can choose what ads to show to whom and at what time. And you can track the performance of your ads in real-time. Now, these ads can be Text Ads (Google Search Ads), Display Ads (Instagram Ads), or Video Ads (Youtube Ads).

Paid ads will bring you new leads when the ads are shown to a new set of audience and will also generate sales when the ads are shown to the people who are already your leads. And you can manage each and every step of the process efficiently.

If you have the right lead magnet, audience targeting, and strategy, paid ads work like a magic wand bringing you multiple folds ROI (Return on Investment).

Note: If you don’t have experience in running ads, it is best to take help from a professional.

3. Build Trust

Once you get your potential customers in the funnel by taking their contact details, it is time to nurture them and build trust.

Trust is a very powerful tool, that when used rightfully can do wonders.

It is not easy to win someone’s trust if you are greedy and always keep on asking something (to buy your product).

Trust is built when two entities communicate and get to know each other. Trust is built when you start giving them value without asking anything in return. Basically, you are preparing them for a natural sale.

Set up an automated sequence of emails that your leads will get, once they download your lead magnet. In these emails, share links to your blogs, details about your company, ask them about themselves, send them feedbacks from other people, and don’t try to sell anything at all.

After a certain level of trust is built, your leads are warm and finally, it’s time for the sales to happen automatically.

Remember that the amount of trust needed to build depends on a lot of factors like the pricing of your product/service, the importance of your offering in their life, the quality and uniqueness of your offering, etc.

4. Win the War

This is the final step of the funnel: Sales.

It’s time to end the war by claiming the victory for which we waited patiently for so long. Once your prospects start trusting you, it will be very easy to get them to purchase your product/service without pushing them to do it.

Just share a good sales page/video or do a sales webinar with your warm leads. You will observe a magical conversion rate effortlessly.

People think that a good salesman is someone who can force anyone to buy, but actually, a good salesman is someone who plots the entire thing in a way that the sales happen naturally without the customer realizing that they are being sold to.

You just have to get the sales pitch ready and give an offer the prospects cannot deny. Make them feel that they are getting a lot more than what they are paying for. Never use this trust to do any wrong things. And always over-deliver than what you have promised.

Once you have created an ecosystem of trust, your new customers will start coming automatically from Word of Mouth Marketing: The most powerful Marketing Technique. But let’s discuss about it some other time.

Putting the Plan to Work

Now, you already know the strategies that will help you boost the growth of your e-learning business.

So what are you waiting for?

Just go and start implementing stuff.

But wait!

What if I don’t know how to run optimized paid ads, set up email automation, create a good landing page, or the other marketing jargon we just talked about?

Implementing these things may be a bit overwhelming for you if you are not a seasoned digital marketer.

Well, you can either learn & practice about these things in detail and become the digital marketer for your business, or you can hire someone for the job and let the expert work for you.

It completely depends on your availability and commitments. However, if you are not a digital marketer and are handling any other aspect of your business, I will recommend getting help from a digital marketer.

You can hire a freelancer if you are not very confident on hiring a full-time employee. A freelancer will work for you on the project basis and will be a more efficient choice for your business.

Conclusion

If you have carefully read the blog till here, congratulations, you are one step closer to success. You now know everything you need to take your e-learning business to the next level using the power of Digital Marketing.

But, remember, just knowing the right things to do won’t make any difference.

Implementation is the key here. You have to get your potential customers into the magic funnel and you will definitely see light at the end of the funnel.
